Everyday Calculators

Age Calculator

Calculate your exact age in years, months and days — plus total days lived, next birthday and countdown. Free, accurate and easy to use.

Calculator

Enter your date of birth and the date you want age calculated as of. The as-of date defaults to today.

Age is calculated from calendar dates only (no birth time). Institutions and legal systems may define age differently for specific cut-offs.

Your Age

Enter a date of birth and press Calculate Age.

How exact age is calculated

This age calculator measures completed calendar years, then months, then days between two dates. That handles month lengths and leap years correctly — unlike approximations such as days ÷ 365.

Method

1. Count full years from date of birth to the as-of date.

2. Count full months remaining after those years.

3. Count the leftover days.

Total days = exact calendar-day difference. Total hours = total days × 24.

Leap years and 29 February

If you were born on 29 February, your next birthday is counted on 29 February in leap years and on 28 February in non-leap years.

Age in years/months/days still uses the real date difference from 29 February. The February 28 rule applies only to next-birthday countdown in non-leap years.

Example

Date of birth: 15 January 2000

As of: 5 October 2026

Age = 26 years, 8 months, 20 days

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated?

Exact age counts completed calendar years, then completed months, then remaining days between your date of birth and the “as of” date. It does not divide total days by 365.

What if I was born on 29 February?

For next-birthday countdown, leap-year birthdays are observed on 29 February in leap years and on 28 February in non-leap years. Age in years/months/days still uses the real calendar difference from 29 February.

How are total days and hours calculated?

Total days is the exact number of calendar days between the two dates. Total hours is total days × 24, because birth time is not collected.

What happens on my birthday?

If the “as of” date is your birthday (including the February 29 → 28 convention in non-leap years), days remaining is 0 and the calculator shows a birthday message.

Can I calculate age as of a past or future date?

Yes. Change “Calculate age as of” to any valid date on or after your date of birth. Date of birth itself cannot be later than today.
