What is GPA?
GPA (Grade Point Average) summarizes academic performance across courses. Because courses carry different credit hours, averaging letter grades alone is incomplete. A credit-weighted GPA reflects how much each course contributes.
Student Calculators
Calculate semester SGPA and cumulative CGPA with credit-hour weighting. Free, clear, and built for university students — no registration required.
Enter your subjects below. Grade points update instantly when you pick a grade.
Results are calculated using the selected grading scale and credit-hour weighting. Always verify grading policies with your institution.
Scales vary by institution. Honors/AP boosts apply only when that preset includes them.

Add each semester’s SGPA and total credit hours. CGPA is credit-weighted — not a plain average of semester GPAs.

This GPA calculator uses a credit-weighted formula. For each subject, quality points equal grade point × credit hours. GPA is total quality points divided by total credit hours.
GPA formula
GPA = SUM(Grade Point × Credit Hours) / SUM(Credit Hours)
In plain language: multiply each grade point by that course’s credits, add those results, then divide by the total credits.
GPA (Grade Point Average) summarizes academic performance across courses. Because courses carry different credit hours, averaging letter grades alone is incomplete. A credit-weighted GPA reflects how much each course contributes.
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the GPA for a single semester. An SGPA calculator uses the same weighted formula on one term’s subjects — the figure students usually check after final exams.
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines results across multiple semesters. When semester credit loads differ, a plain average of semester GPAs is misleading. A proper CGPA calculator weights each semester by its credit hours.
GPA or SGPA usually covers one semester or a selected set of courses. CGPA accumulates completed semesters into one ongoing average. Both use credit-hour weighting; the difference is the scope of courses included.
SGPA uses the same formula as GPA: total quality points for the semester divided by total credit hours for that semester. Enter every subject’s credits and grade, then calculate.
CGPA formula
CGPA = Total Quality Points / Total Credit Hours
Equivalently: SUM(Semester GPA × Semester Credit Hours) / SUM(Semester Credit Hours)
This matches the calculator’s engine. When subject-level data is available, quality points are preferred for maximum accuracy.
Credit hours measure how much a course counts. A 4-credit course affects GPA more than a 2-credit course with the same letter grade because quality points scale with credits.
Grade points are the numeric value of a letter grade on the selected scale (for example, A = 4.00). Higher grade points and higher credit hours both increase quality points, which raises GPA when totals are divided.
This is an example only — your result depends on the subjects and grading scale you enter.
Example
Mathematics — 3 credit hours — A = 4.00
English — 3 credit hours — B = 3.00
Quality points: 3 × 4.00 = 12.00
Quality points: 3 × 3.00 = 9.00
Total quality points = 21.00
Total credit hours = 6
GPA = 21 / 6 = 3.50
Different universities may use different grading scales and percentage-conversion rules. This tool calculates using the selected grading scale and credit-hour weighting. It does not claim one GPA-to-percentage formula works for every institution.
Percentage conversion depends on your university or institution. CGPA × 25 is not universally correct and should not be treated as an official percentage.

GPA (Grade Point Average) is a credit-weighted average of your course grades. Courses with more credit hours influence the result more than courses with fewer credits.
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the GPA for one semester. It uses the same formula: total quality points divided by total credit hours for that term.
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines results across multiple semesters using total quality points and total credit hours — not a simple average of semester GPAs when credit loads differ.
Multiply each subject’s grade point by its credit hours, add those quality points, then divide by the total credit hours. This calculator performs that weighted formula for you.
Yes. A 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 2-credit course with the same letter grade because quality points scale with credit hours.
Yes. Enter each semester’s SGPA and total credit hours. The tool weights every semester by credits to produce an accurate CGPA.
No. Percentage conversion depends on your university. This calculator does not treat CGPA × 25 as a universal rule.
