Formula
Mean = (sum of the values) ÷ (how many values).
The page also shows the sum, the count, the lowest value and the highest value. It does not drop a mark unless you leave that mark out of the list.
Solved example (four class tests)
Marks: 72, 81, 65 and 90.
Sum = 72 + 81 + 65 + 90 = 308.
Count = 4.
Mean = 308 ÷ 4 = 77. Lowest = 65. Highest = 90.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as SGPA?
No. This mean treats every number equally. SGPA weights each course by its credit hours. Use the GPA calculator when credits differ.
What average do 72, 81, 65 and 90 give?
The sum is 308 and there are four marks, so the mean is 77.
Can I paste marks separated by commas?
Yes. Commas, spaces or semicolons all split the list. An empty box is rejected because there is nothing to add.
Does a higher total mark raise the average by itself?
Only if you are averaging the marks you actually type. A paper out of 100 and a quiz out of 10 should not be averaged together unless you convert them to the same scale first.
