Who uses a pay arrears calculator for government employees Pakistan
Arrears appear when a pay revision, allowance change or annual increment is notified late. Government employees, autonomous-body staff and private payroll clerks use this page to estimate the gap between what was paid and what the new rate says should have been paid. You enter the old monthly salary, the new monthly salary, old and new allowances, a start date, an end date, a monthly deduction, and any other adjustment.
The monthly difference is (new salary + new allowances) minus (old salary + old allowances). That single monthly gap is then spread over every calendar month touched by your dates. The tool does not guess which circular applies. You bring the two rates from the pay slip or the office order.
How arrears between two dates are computed
Both dates are included. For each month, the tool counts the days that fall inside your range and divides by the number of days in that month. A full month therefore contributes the whole monthly difference. A stub month contributes only its fraction. Gross arrears are the sum of those monthly pieces. Months equivalent is the sum of the fractions, which is what the deduction uses.
Worked example, three full months: old salary PKR 50,000, new salary PKR 60,000, allowances zero, from 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026. The monthly difference is PKR 10,000. January, February and March are all fully inside the range, so gross arrears are PKR 30,000. With no monthly deduction and no other adjustment, net arrears are also PKR 30,000.
Partial months and deductions
A partial month is not rounded up to a full month. From 16 March 2026 to 15 April 2026, with the same PKR 10,000 monthly difference, March has 31 days and the range covers 16 of them, so March contributes PKR 5,161.29. April has 30 days and the range covers 15 of them, so April contributes PKR 5,000. Gross arrears are PKR 10,161.29 before deductions.
The monthly deduction is multiplied by the months-equivalent figure, not by a rough count of calendar names. Other adjustments are subtracted as you type them, and they may be negative if your office is adding a separate amount back. Net arrears equal gross arrears minus total deductions minus other adjustments. Tax already sitting inside the monthly deduction should not be typed again as an other adjustment.
Mistakes that change the cheque
If the revision changes basic and one allowance but not another, put the unchanged allowance on both the old and new allowance lines so it cancels out. If you leave it only on the new line, the whole allowance is treated as arrears.
- Counting both the first and last month as full months when the order starts or ends mid-month.
- Forgetting that February’s length changes the fraction, including in a leap year.
- Putting only basic in one column and basic plus allowances in the other, so the difference is inflated.
- Using an end date before the start date. The tool rejects that range.
Limitations
Departments sometimes pay arrears on basic only, exclude a broken month, or deduct tax on the lump in a special way. This page is a calendar estimate, not an official bill and not legal advice. Reconcile it with the pay office statement before you treat the figure as due.

Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates both counted?
Yes. The day count for each month includes the first day and the last day of the overlap with your range.
How is a partial month turned into money?
Days inside the range divided by the days in that calendar month, times the monthly pay difference. A 16-day slice of a 31-day month is 16/31 of the monthly difference.
Where do deductions go?
Type a monthly deduction if something such as tax or a fund recovery should come off the arrears. It is scaled by the same month fractions as the gross. A one-off recovery goes in other adjustments.
What if the new pay is lower than the old pay?
The monthly difference becomes negative and the result is a recovery estimate rather than an amount payable. Check that this matches the office order.
Can I include arrears of one allowance only?
Yes. Put the old and new allowance amounts in the allowance boxes and keep salary the same on both salary lines if basic did not change.
Does this follow every government pay office’s broken-month rule?
No. It uses actual days in the calendar month. If your department uses a 30-day month for every period, the office figure can differ. Use their rule when the two disagree.
