Target CGPA Calculator

Calculate the semester GPA you need to reach your target CGPA — using credit-hour weighted mathematics, not a simple average.

Calculator

Enter your current CGPA, completed credits, target CGPA and upcoming semester credits.

This calculator uses credit-hour weighted CGPA mathematics on a 4.00 scale. Actual university grading policies may differ.

Scales vary by institution. Use 4.00 unless your campus publishes a 4.30 A+.

Plan your future semesters (optional)

Enter credits for up to three future semesters. The calculator uses the total upcoming credits and shows one required GPA across those credits — not a complex optimizer.

What is Target CGPA?

Your target CGPA is the cumulative grade point average you want to reach. Because CGPA is weighted by credit hours, improving it depends on both the GPA you earn next and how many credits you take.

How is required GPA calculated?

This calculator uses credit-hour weighted mathematics — the same foundation as the GPA / SGPA / CGPA Calculator.

Formula

Required GPA = (Target CGPA × (Completed Credits + Upcoming Credits) − Current CGPA × Completed Credits) ÷ Upcoming Credits

Maximum possible CGPA = (Current CGPA × Completed Credits + 4.00 × Upcoming Credits) ÷ (Completed Credits + Upcoming Credits)

Worked example

Current CGPA = 2.80

Completed credits = 60

Target CGPA = 3.00

Upcoming credits = 15

Required GPA = (3.00 × 75 − 2.80 × 60) ÷ 15 = 3.80

Maximum possible CGPA if you earn 4.00 next = 3.04

Actual university grading policies may differ, and the calculator assumes a 4.00 GPA scale unless otherwise specified.

Frequently asked questions

What is a target CGPA calculator?

It tells you the semester GPA you need in upcoming credit hours to reach a CGPA goal, using credit-hour weighted mathematics rather than a simple average.

How is required GPA calculated?

Required GPA = (Target CGPA × (Completed Credits + Upcoming Credits) − Current CGPA × Completed Credits) ÷ Upcoming Credits.

What if my current CGPA is already above my target?

The calculator reports that you have already exceeded your target CGPA. You do not need a higher GPA to “reach” a lower goal.

What does “maximum possible CGPA” mean?

It is the CGPA you would reach if you earned a perfect 4.00 GPA in all upcoming credits. If your target is above that value, it is mathematically impossible with the credits you entered.

Can I plan multiple future semesters?

Yes. Enter credits for up to three future semesters. The calculator uses the total upcoming credits and shows the single required GPA needed across those credits — it does not invent a complex semester-by-semester optimizer.
